About religiousyouthempowerment
For nearly thirty years, youth have gathered during the final week of June on an island off the coast of New Hampshire to escape from everyday life, build community, and foster group and individual spirituality to take part in a truly unique entirely youth-led conference. In its three decades on Star Island, our conference has been known as Liberal Religious Youth (LRY), Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU) and more. As we enter into our second year as Youth Empowerment and Spiritual-Health (YES), we hold onto these core values revered in years past but at the same time adapt to the ever-changing needs within our community as we move forward.
Members of our conference, known as shoalers, range in age from 15 to 22 allowing for unique connections within our community. Many shoalers have some background in Unitarian Universalism, and many others have added vibrancy to our community by bringing their own beliefs to our conference. Shoalers old and new can expect to spend time attending workshops on topics ranging from social justice issues to the art of billy-goating, dressing up for themed dinners, stumbling upon impromptu dance parties, watching incredible sunrises and sunsets over the open ocean, sitting in nightly worships, and so much more.
More information about the YES conference can be found throughout this website.
